Day 9-10 - August 25-26, 2009
We left Dawson Creek around 9am on the 25th and headed to Fort Nelson which is about 260 miles away. We had very good roads and arrived in Fort Nelson around 2:30pm. I decided to stop for fuel tonight instead of waiting until we leave and was very surprised at the increase in the price. We had been paying about a dollar per liter, which figures to about $3.80 per gallon since arriving at the Canadian border. Today I paid $1.25 per liter which figures about $4.75 per gallon! No photos today but hopefully we will see some wildlife tomorrow and be able to get some good photos.
We left Fort Nelson around 8am and headed out to Laird River Hot Springs. This is a Candian Provential Park which is like a U.S. National Park. Just after leaving Fort Nelson we saw a a lot of wildlife, beautiful streams, beautiful mountains and lots of colorful plants. Unlike the photos of the Buffalo I shot earlier on the trip, these photos of buffalo and caribou are wild and not fenced in. The are allowed to roam the forests as they have for hundreds of years.
We arrived at Laird River Hot Springs around noon, rested a bit then headed down to the hot springs for a relaxing dip in the 108-126 degree water. On our walk down to the hot springs we saw a female black bear with her two cubs and also an array of plants.
