  1. RV Vacations
  2. Alaska - 2009

Day 39-42, September 24-27, 2009

We left Grand Junction, CO and headed out to Vail, CO. We drove the access road while in Vail so we could look at the town a little, but no signs of snow. We then stopped at a roadside park just outside of Vail and Jan got her wish as it started snowing when I pulled in to the roadside park. We ate lunch, and spent a little time shooting some photos and watching it snow. We then traveled East on Hwy 70 from Vail to Hwy 91 where we turned south Vail and found a few more places to stop and shoot some photos and even throw a few snowballs!! The last 10-12 photos we shot were standing beside the road which was a dam for a lake. The snow covered mountains in the distance made what I consider a perfect post card photo!! We traveled to just north of Santa Fe, NM before we stopped at a Lowe's parking lot for the night.

The next morning we traveled to Artesia, NM to visit with Robert and Gaylene and family. We ate Mexican food for the first time in almost 6 weeks. It was sure a great treat!! We also took a tour of Bob and Jillana's house as they had moved into a different house than the last time we were there. They have done a great job decorating and furnishing the house. Bob has done many improvements and has a great looking yard. I hope his desire to work outside in the yard so much does NOT rub off on me :-) We were priviledged to get a tour of Robbie and Tina's house (mansion) that they have just finished building. In fact it is so new that they were going to spend their first night in the house on Saturday.

Saturday morning I helped Robbie determine where some of the telephone and video wiring was going then we ate lunch and headed out of New Mexico to San Antonio. We spent the night at a roadside park as we were two hours from San Antonio and it was 10:15 pm. The next day we arrived at the RV park in San Antonio, setup the motorhome then Melissa, Cash and Dean came over. We all went to lunch on the river walk, then Jan and I took Cash for a boat ride on the river. Tonight we have our grandson, Cash, with us and will take him home with us as Melissa is working in Blanco this next week. Tomorrow will be our last leg of a fantastic 43 days of seeing the USA and Canada. A great big thanks to all that have made this trip possible and have hosted us along the way. We will be home for about 3 weeks then we head to Missouri for a Royal Ranger meeting and reunion.
